Although what she has delivered him up to now doesn't even remotely resemble the freedom she promised.ĭanny's history with the darker side of the Marvel Universe began with his first appearance in the 1990s Ghost Rider #1 (by Howard Mackie and Javier Saltares) when he and his sister got caught in the middle of a gang war between Deathwatch and the Kingpin. After forcing a brutal display of his powers within her properly outfitted lab, Doctor Diyu offers Danny a chance to effectively sell off his claim to the mantle of the Death Rider. Over the course of Johnny Blaze's long and storied career as the Ghost Rider, he has become acutely aware of the inner workings and nuances of all things infernal. Given how many nefarious forces there are between Earth, Heaven, and Hell, there are plenty who would want to see Johnny and his fellow Ghost Riders crushed under foot. That being the case, Danny's condition could easily inform the possible consequences should Johnny or any other full-time Ghost Rider lose their connection to Hell - which might just be more likely than any of them think.Īlthough a Ghost Rider being split back into two distinctly unique beings isn't a common occurrence in the Marvel Universe, it is one that has a precedent. Since their separations came either early in his career or during Johnny's short-lived reign over Hell itself, it makes sense he wouldn't have noticed any of these side effects. Even if Johnny isn't specifically bonded to a Spirit of Corruption, he has been bonded to his Spirit of Vengeance longer than any of his contemporaries. While this specific sort of dependency on bonding to a demon is a new development only revealed due to Danny's current circumstances, that doesn't mean it only applies to Danny.
